Dehring, a visionary leader with a sterling track record across finance, sports management, telecommunications, and media, will officially assume the role on February 1, 2025, as he sets out to chart an ambitious new course for the organization.

Dehring’s selection follows a meticulous, merit-based process that saw over 50 candidates from across the globe—including Europe, Australia, India, Afghanistan, and the Caribbean—vying for the role. A panel of independent experts oversaw the competitive process, underscoring CWI’s commitment to attracting top-tier leadership.

CWI President Dr. Kishore Shallow heralded the appointment with evident enthusiasm: “Consistent with the priority to recruit exceptional leadership to drive our mission forward, Chris Dehring represents the best of the best—an innovator, strategist, business magnate, and passionate advocate for West Indies cricket. His return as an executive at West Indies cricket signals the dawn of an exciting new era as we work to reclaim our position as a dominant force in world cricket.”

A legacy of transformation

Dehring’s reputation as a transformative leader precedes him. Renowned for pioneering achievements, he revolutionized Caribbean sports media as the founder of SportsMax, the region’s first dedicated sports television network, broadcasting marquee global events such as the FIFA World Cup and NBA.

In finance, Dehring co-founded Dehring, Bunting & Golding, Jamaica’s first investment bank, which became a dominant force before being acquired by Scotiabank. He continued his ground-breaking work in telecommunications, leading major advances as part of the Senior Executive Global Leadership Team at Cable & Wireless Communications, where he oversaw operations generating $3.5 billion annually across the Caribbean and Latin America.

Dehring’s storied connection with West Indies cricket runs deep. As Managing Director and CEO of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, he delivered one of the most ambitious sporting events in Caribbean history. Under his stewardship, the tournament achieved record-breaking revenues and global viewership, bolstered by 10 newly constructed state-of-the-art stadiums and innovative fan experiences like the iconic Mound party stand at Sabina Park.

He also pioneered development programs that remain impactful to this day, such as the Shell Cricket Academy and the beloved Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket initiative, underscoring his commitment to nurturing young talent.

A return to inspire change

For Dehring, stepping into this leadership role is both a personal and professional triumph: “West Indies cricket has always held a special place in my heart. As a unifying force and a symbol of pride for our region, I am honored to return to an organization that holds great significance to our people. Together with the CWI team and stakeholders, I am committed to driving innovation, fostering talent, and reigniting the passion for West Indies cricket, both at home and globally.”

Based at Cricket West Indies’ headquarters at Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) in Antigua, Dehring will be tasked with implementing CWI’s strategic vision and driving operational excellence to restore West Indies cricket to its former global dominance.

Dehring’s return brings with it heightened expectations and renewed optimism. His proven ability to merge business acumen, innovation, and deep regional pride positions him as the ideal candidate to lead CWI through its next chapter. Stakeholders, fans, and cricketing legends alike will look to Dehring to reignite the passion and performance synonymous with the golden era of West Indies cricket.
