Brianna Lyston qualifies for 100m fina, as compatriots shine in field events at SEC Outdoors

Brianna Lyston, a sophomore at LSU, showcased her sprinting prowess at the SEC Outdoor Championships in Gainesville, Florida, by securing a spot in the final of the women’s 100m.

After impressively running 22.31 seconds in the 200m preliminary round, Lyston clocked 11.09 seconds in the 100m, making her the joint-fastest qualifier alongside Tennessee’s Jacious Sears. Joining her in the final are Bahamian Wanya McCoy from Florida and Jamaican Jehlani Gordon from Georgia, qualifying as the second and ninth fastest, with times of 11.09 and 11.17 seconds, respectively.

In the women’s 400m preliminaries, Arkansas senior Nickisha Pryce of Jamaica delivered a stellar performance, setting a personal best and collegiate leading time of 49.72 seconds. Pryce, the reigning Jamaican national champion, advanced as the fastest qualifier, followed closely by her teammate Kaylyn Brown with a time of 49.86 seconds. LSU’s Jahiem Stern also secured a spot in the 110m hurdles final with a time of 13.45 seconds.

Field events

In the field events, Jamaican athletes excelled with Romaine Beckford and Wayne Pinnock representing Arkansas. Beckford clinched the gold in the high jump with a clearance of 2.22m, followed by LSU’s Kuda Chadenga and Ole Miss’s Arvesta Troupe.

Pinnock, a silver medalist at the World Championships, defended his SEC title in the long jump with a leap of 8.09m. Micah Larry of Georgia secured second place, while Caleb Foster of Florida took third, both recording distances of 7.80m.
