West Indies white-ball coach Darren Sammy has lauded the prowess of the regional team's batting line-up in anticipation of the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup.

While expressing satisfaction with the batting performances, Sammy emphasized the need for adjustments in the bowling department to ensure the team's overall strength ahead of the June tournament.

Despite facing defeat against Australia in a recent series Down Under, Sammy commended the consistent batting displays, noting that the team had scored over 200 runs in three consecutive matches, showcasing their power at the crease.

Acknowledging the importance of strategic planning, Sammy highlighted ongoing discussions with team management regarding bowling roles and preparations for different conditions and venues expected during the T20 World Cup. He emphasized the significance of having the right personnel to fulfil key roles in the team.

The team's readiness for the tournament

Reflecting on recent matches against Australia, where West Indies posted competitive totals despite facing a strong opposition, Sammy expressed confidence in the team's ability to perform under pressure.

As preparations for the T20 World Cup intensify, Sammy mentioned upcoming fixtures, including matches against South Africa and players participating in the IPL, contributing to the team's readiness for the tournament. With the tournament being held in familiar conditions at home, Sammy stressed the importance of executing well on match days.

While West Indies has a rich history in T20 cricket, winning the World Cup in 2012 and 2016, Sammy acknowledged the recent disappointments in the tournament's last two editions. However, he remains optimistic about the team's prospects, emphasizing the importance of preparation and execution for success in the upcoming competition.
