Experience returns as Windies strengthen Test core
The squad receives a major boost with the return of wicketkeeper-batter Joshua Da Silva, who returns after an outstanding domestic campaign.
Da Silva accumulated 996 runs across the last two seasons of the West Indies Championship, reinforcing his credentials as one of the region’s most dependable red-ball performers.
Also earning a recall is Amir Jangoo, whose impressive Championship form included a double century and saw him finish second among the competition’s leading run-scorers.
The selection marks Jangoo’s first Test squad inclusion since January 2025.
Fast-bowling firepower restored
The West Indies pace attack receives another boost with the return of Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph.
Both fast bowlers missed recent Test tours of India and New Zealand due to injury but are now back in contention after last featuring in the Test setup during the 2025 home series against Australia.
Their return adds further depth and aggression to a bowling unit expected to play a key role in Antigua conditions.
Head coach Daren Sammy said the upcoming series represents another important opportunity for the team to continue developing its identity in the longest format.
“Every Test series is an opportunity for us to grow as a team and strengthen our identity,” Sammy said.
“Sri Lanka are a quality side, so we know we’ll have to be at our best, but we’re excited about the challenge ahead.”
The former West Indies captain emphasized that the group’s focus remains on discipline, resilience and pride in representing the region.
“For us, it’s about playing with discipline, showing character when the game gets tough, and representing the West Indies with pride,” Sammy added.
“The players have been putting in the work, and we’re looking forward to putting on a strong display for our fans across the Caribbean.”
Antigua camp sets foundation for summer Test campaign
As part of their preparations, the Test squad is currently involved in a high-performance training camp in Antigua, running from June 12 to June 22.
Players involved in the recent white-ball series in Jamaica joined the camp on June 15.
The programme has focused on technical refinement, match-specific preparation, fitness conditioning and team-building exercises, while allowing the coaching staff to assess player readiness ahead of Sri Lanka’s arrival.
Sammy described the camp as an important stage in preparing the team for both the immediate challenge and future assignments.
“This is a key component of our preparations heading into the series, providing players and coaches with valuable time to enhance and improve the skills we want to see sharpened,” he said.
“It also gives us the opportunity to put clear objectives and plans in place for the conclusion of the summer against Pakistan.”
The coach also highlighted the importance of the upcoming four-day warm-up match.
“Additionally, the four-day warm-up game prior to the series provides the chance for some of our Test hopefuls to play in high intensity action and create the avenue for more competition within the squad ahead of the upcoming and future series,” Sammy added.
