Virgin Atlantic seeks to make travel affordable for Caribbean passengers going to Europe

Virgin Atlantic has revealed its plans to enhance travel opportunities for Caribbean passengers heading to Europe while also joining forces with Barbados to develop a more enticing vision for the island, intended to attract a greater number of visitors to the region.
Empowering Barbados with a vision for growth
Speaking with Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC), Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Atlantic, Shai Weiss, shared the airline’s aspiration for a more expansive vision for Barbados during a recent visit to the island.
Emphasizing the need for confidence and ambition, Weiss underscored the demand for upscale hotel accommodations and advocated for the development of the shoreline.
He urged for a bolder approach towards fostering entrepreneurship, aligning with governmental initiatives, and envisaging a dynamic roadmap towards 2030.
Weiss’ vision aims to captivate the imagination of prospective travelers, enticing them to explore the island’s offerings.
Commitment to affordable travel
Assuring Caribbean travelers of their commitment to affordability, Virgin Atlantic, under the majority ownership of British business magnate Sir Richard Branson, pledged to prioritize cost-effectiveness in transatlantic travel.
Weiss highlighted the challenges posed by uncontrollable factors such as fuel costs, inflation, and interest rates, affirming the airline’s dedication to operational efficiency to ensure competitive pricing for customers.
Revitalizing tourism
Celebrating the resurgence of passenger levels to pre-pandemic standards in 2019, Weiss expressed enthusiasm for enhancing the utilization of Virgin Atlantic’s travel packages, which encompass flight, accommodation, and car rentals.
With approximately 10 per cent of its international capacity dedicated to the Caribbean, Virgin Atlantic anticipates synergistic growth opportunities, particularly with the commencement of Delta Air Lines’ services from Atlanta and New York to the Caribbean.
Weiss expressed satisfaction with the existing capacity and emphasized the collective efforts aimed at further nurturing tourism in the region.
A strong bond with the Caribbean
Describing the Caribbean as a cherished destination, Weiss highlighted Virgin Atlantic’s substantial contribution to the region, welcoming half a million visitors annually, with a significant portion flocking to Barbados.
Expressing contentment with the enduring relationship spanning over two decades, Weiss affirmed the airline’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange through strategic event planning, ensuring maximum engagement between visitors and local festivals.
As Virgin Atlantic prepares to commemorate its 40th anniversary, Weiss assured that the Caribbean would play a pivotal role in the global celebrations, reinforcing the airline’s enduring bond with the region.
Through visionary leadership and a steadfast commitment to affordability and accessibility, Virgin Atlantic endeavors to catalyze a new era of Caribbean travel, fostering economic growth and cultural exchange across the region.
