Tributes to Hubert Lawrence

His passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow members of the media, track and field enthusiasts, public figures, and admirers. Notably, he was slated to be part of today's Gibson McCook Relays TV coverage team.

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association issued a release stating: “The JAAA is deeply saddened by the passing of extraordinary track and field analyst and journalist Hubert Lawrence. He dedicated his life to the sport we love. Sincere condolences to his many friends and his family. May his soul rest in peace.”

Jamaica's Minister of Sport Olivia "Babsy" Grange said "I am in shock with the news of the passing of Hubert Lawrence, whom we have come to regard as one of Jamaica’s leading lights on track and field. His depth of knowledge about track and field not only in Jamaica was perhaps unparalleled.

His death will leave a huge void in commentary and analysis on the sport as few were as knowledgeable and articulate about it as he was. I express my deepest sympathy to his family, friends and associates. Rest in peace, Hubert."
