University of Arkansas’ Wayne Pinnock’s remarkable jump marks world’s top performance in 2024

In a remarkable display of athleticism, University of Arkansas junior Wayne Pinnock set the world's best long jump of 2024 during the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque on the weekend.

Competing in his first meet of the season, Pinnock achieved an indoor personal best by leaping 27 feet and 4 1/2 inches.

Pinnock, who had previously competed twice in Albuquerque during the previous season, showcased his talent with this outstanding performance. Last season, he won at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic with a jump of 26-7 and secured a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a jump of 27-4.

Fourth-best jump all-time indoors by an Arkansas athlete

This latest jump not only solidified Pinnock's status as an elite jumper but also earned him the distinction of achieving the fourth-best jump all-time indoors by an Arkansas athlete. Additionally, his jump now holds the 10th spot on the all-time collegiate list for indoor long jumps.

Pinnock's remarkable athletic journey continued into the outdoor season last year when he posted a world-leading jump of 28-0 1/4 during the qualifying round at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. His performance earned him a silver medal at the prestigious event, further establishing his reputation as a top-tier long jumper.

In the same event, Arkansas sophomore Jordan Anthony, known for his multi-sport abilities in track and field and football, made his debut as a Razorback. Anthony, a transfer from Texas A&M, exhibited his sprinting prowess by finishing third in the 60 meters with a time of 6.62 seconds.

Remarkable performance

Anthony's impressive debut bodes well for the upcoming indoor season. Previously, as a freshman at Kentucky, Anthony had finished second in the 60 at the NCAA meet with a time of 6.57, and he now ranks third on Arkansas' all-time list for the event.

Isaac Grimes of Texas, with a jump of 25-0 1/2, achieved the second-best collegiate mark in the long jump after Wayne Pinnock's remarkable performance.

Pinnock's world-best long jump in 2024 reflects his exceptional talent and dedication as a track and field athlete. His achievements continue to elevate his status in the sport, making him a notable competitor to watch in the upcoming events and championships.
