WASHINGTON, D.C. - As of April 11, the United States of America has topped both Italy and China as the country worst hit by the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Not only has America surpassed both countries with the number of cases, but with the number of deaths as well.
World data (as of mid-day April 11) shows the U.S. recorded 516,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases, almost seven times the total number of cases confirmed in China, where the virus started. The number of deaths in the United States have also skyrocketed to almost 20,000.
While Italy, Spain and China, three of the world's worst-hit by COVID-19 have turned the corner and began to record a decline in the number of cases, America has yet to follow suit. On Friday, April 10, the country logged its deadliest day in the COVID-19 pandemic, with more than 2,000 deaths, becoming the only to record over 2,000 COVID-19 deaths in 24 hours.
New York has been the worst-hit state in the country, with over 180,000 cases and over 8,000 deaths.
Many researchers and health officials have warned that while other countries have began to flatten the curve America has not yet reached its peak in cases.
