UK firm Securys expands reach with new branch in Jamaica

Securys, a data protection consultancy firm headquartered in the United Kingdom, is poised to enhance its presence in the Caribbean region with the inauguration of a new branch in Jamaica.

Having already established a foothold on the island, Securys aims to strengthen its ties with existing local partners through the official launch of its Jamaican office this February.

Commitment to data security

Approaching its milestone tenth anniversary later this year, Securys specializes in offering personal data protection services to a diverse clientele spanning various industries.

The company views its expansion into Jamaica as an opportunity to foster closer collaboration with local organizations, particularly against the backdrop of recent high-profile data security breaches.

Upholding data privacy as a human right

Ben Rapp, the founder and principal of Securys, emphasizes the fundamental importance of data protection in today’s digital age.

He asserts that safeguarding personal data is not only a legal requirement but also a moral imperative.

Navigating regulatory landscape

In light of Jamaica’s Data Protection Act, which came into effect in December 2023, Securys sees itself well-equipped to assist companies in navigating the evolving regulatory landscape.

With its wealth of experience and expertise, the company aims to emerge as a trusted partner for Jamaican businesses seeking to ensure compliance with stringent data protection regulations.

Building a center of excellence

Sara Newman, co-founder and practice lead at Securys, expresses enthusiasm about establishing a “center of excellence” in Jamaica.

The firm plans to recruit a talented local team to cater not only to the domestic market but also to clients across the wider Caribbean, Latin America, and North America, leveraging its global resources.

Supporting regulatory compliance

Securys has collaborated closely with Jamaica’s Office of the Information Commissioner to provide tailored support to both existing and prospective clients.

Newman underscores the company’s commitment to assisting organizations in allocating resources effectively and achieving compliance with regulatory requirements.
