UAE announces establishment of embassy in Guyana

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced that it plans to establish an embassy in Guyana, marking a pivotal moment in the strengthening of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali made the announcement during his keynote address at the annual awards ceremony of the Guyana Oil and Gas Energy Chamber.
Expanding diplomatic horizons
President Ali highlighted the profound effects of this move, emphasizing how it would contribute to Guyana’s burgeoning economy.
He underlined the importance of expanding the nation’s diplomatic reach, as evidenced by the UAE’s commitment to construct an embassy in Guyana.
He further shared that Qatar has also expressed its intention to establish an embassy in Guyana, and discussions are underway with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for a similar endeavor.
Beyond brick and mortar
However, President Ali underscored that the significance of these embassies transcends mere physical structures and diplomatic presence.
He emphasized the substantial development funds these countries would bring, which could catalyze transformative changes in Guyana’s socioeconomic landscape.
Fostering bilateral relations and investment
The President drew attention to the growing hospitality sector, exemplified by the construction of several hotels in the region.
An ambitious vision for the future
President Ali outlined an ambitious vision for the nation’s future. He emphasized the need to prepare Guyana’s economy for a significant influx of visitors.
He noted that by 2030, the aim is not merely to have three million people residing in the country, but to create the mechanisms and invest in an economy that can attract and serve three million people who pass through Guyana and utilize its services.
