Turks and Caicos authorities intercept over 100 migrants near Northwest Point

In the ongoing effort to monitor its borders, the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) have sustained their operations against irregular migration. 

Recent enforcement actions have led to the detainment of 115 individuals who were found on an unauthorized vessel on Monday evening.

Marine branch officers thwart unauthorized entry

The effective detection and interception of the vessel were carried out by the Marine Branch of the police near Northwest Point, Providenciales. 

The vessel, which held 86 males, including two minors, and 29 females, one of whom was a minor, was safely escorted to the South Dock Port.

Collaborative security effort

The successful operation was a collaborative effort that included the TCI Regiment and the TCI Border Force. 

Following the interception, the group of irregular migrants was taken into custody by the Border Force for further processing.

Yearly snapshot of interceptions

According to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF), the year up to November 6, 2023, has seen a total of 27 interceptions. 

The figures show a significant number of irregular migrants—2,788 males and 700 females, totaling 3,488—attempting to enter TCI waters, with 28 minors included in this count. 

The RTCIPF continues to actively monitor and respond to such activities to maintain the integrity of TCI’s borders.
