Persad-Bissessar added that local and international authorities had warned that the investigation had become more complex and would require additional time.
The comments follow the release last week of prominent businessman Dominic Hadeed and his wife, Genevieve Hadeed, after National Security Minister Roger Alexander revoked Preventive Detention Orders (PDOs) issued against them.
The Hadeeds were detained on June 24 as part of a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service investigation into allegations of a conspiracy to kill Persad-Bissessar and Attorney General John Jeremie.
In announcing the revocation of the PDOs, Alexander said the continued detention of the couple was no longer proportionate after consideration of legal, medical and constitutional issues, as well as recommendations from the Constitution Review Tribunal.
The Hadeeds have not been charged with any offence, and investigations into the alleged assassination plot remain ongoing.
