Trinidad and Tobago’s Phillip dominates with five-for on Day One against Volcanoes

In the West Indies Championship's fourth round which began on Wednesday, Trinidad and Tobago's Anderson Phillip showcased his prowess with a five-wicket haul, propelling the Red Force to a commanding position against the Windward Islands Volcanoes at Queen’s Park Oval.

Bowling with precision and speed, the 27-year-old right-arm fast bowler dismantled the Volcanoes' batting line-up, claiming the prized wicket of Alick Athanaze among his five victims, conceding only 37 runs in 13 overs, including four maidens.

Supported by Jayden Seales (2-48) and Khary Pierre (3-21), Phillip restricted the Volcanoes to a total of 191.

Red Force closed the day at 89-1

In response, the Red Force closed the day at 89-1, with Vikash Mohan (34*) and Jyd Goolie (1*) set to resume batting on the second day, trailing by 102 runs.

Elsewhere in the championship, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes trail the Combined Campuses & Colleges Marooners by 253 runs with nine wickets remaining. The Guyana Harpy Eagles posted 231-5 against the Barbados Pride, while the Jamaica Scorpions are behind Cricket West Indies Academy by 304 runs with all first-innings wickets intact.

Phillip's exceptional performance has put the Red Force in a commanding position, setting the stage for an intriguing battle in the upcoming days of the championship.
