Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett departs Jamaica to attend ITB Travel Convention in Berlin

Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, has embarked on a journey to participate in the 2024 edition of ITB Berlin, widely regarded as the world’s largest travel tradeshow. 

This annual event boasts over 50 years of global recognition, serving as a pivotal platform for the international tourism industry to foster networking opportunities and facilitate knowledge exchange.

Promoting Jamaica on the global stage

Minister Bartlett’s packed itinerary is a testament to Jamaica’s dedication to forging international partnerships and showcasing its vibrant tourism sector. 

Scheduled engagements include a dinner meeting with executives from the TUI Group and a series of interviews with influential German travel trade magazines such as FVW Medien and Touristik Aktuell. 

Additionally, he is set to make appearances on NTV’s ITB travel special and Radio Frankfurt.

Furthermore, Minister Bartlett will meet with Hon. Nabeela Tunis, the newly appointed Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs for Sierra Leone, underlining Jamaica’s commitment to collaboration within the global tourism community.

Regional engagement and community outreach

On the following day, Minister Bartlett will lead a regional meeting with Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) staff and representatives based in Germany. 

This will be followed by a meeting and reception with the Jamaican community in Germany, hosted at the Embassy of Jamaica in Berlin. 

These engagements underscore the importance of fostering strong ties with both industry professionals and the Jamaican diaspora abroad.

Strategic vision for destination Jamaica

Minister Bartlett emphasized the significance of ITB Berlin as a catalyst for business within the travel and tourism ecosystem. 

He highlighted the event’s role in providing a prime forum for global industry players to connect and share insights.

He said that the aim is to continue leveraging the opportunity to promote Destination Jamaica, foster growth in the tourism sector, as well as build and strengthen valuable international relationships.

Global recognition at PATWA International Travel Awards

In addition to his busy schedule at ITB Berlin, Minister Bartlett will participate in the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) International Travel Awards, a prestigious event on the global tourism calendar. 

Minister Bartlett is scheduled to return to Jamaica on Saturday, March 9, 2024, following his productive engagement at ITB Berlin.
