On the second day of the fourth round of the West Indies Championship on Thursday, Tion Webster and Kieran Powell showcased exceptional batting performances, leading their respective teams to advantageous positions despite facing challenging spells from Kenneth Dember and Romario Greaves.

In the match between Trinidad & Tobago Red Force and Windward Islands Volcanoes, Webster's unbeaten century guided Red Force to a 103-run lead in the first innings. Despite Dember's five-wicket haul, Webster's resilience helped Red Force reach 294 all out in response to Volcanoes' 191. Volcanoes, struggling at 68 for two in their second innings, still trail by 35 runs.

Similarly, Powell's magnificent century lifted Leeward Islands Hurricanes after a daunting spell from Greaves. Despite Greaves' five-wicket haul, Powell's innings propelled Hurricanes to a respectable total of 259 in response to Combined Campuses & Colleges Marooners' 273. Hurricanes managed to restrict Marooners to 76 for three, holding them to a 90-run lead.

Strong lower-order batting

Elsewhere, Veerasammy Permaul and Kevin Sinclair led strong lower-order batting for Guyana Harpy Eagles, posting 436 against Barbados Pride, while Brandon King's leadership saw Jamaica Scorpions secure a two-run lead against Cricket West Indies Academy, finishing at 326 for seven in response to Academy's 324.

Webster and Powell's centuries stood out amidst challenging bowling spells, shaping the course of their respective matches and positioning their teams for favorable outcomes as the competition progresses.
