Three Broward County Public Schools students have been awarded 2026 National Merit College-Sponsored Scholarships, recognizing their outstanding academic achievement, leadership and potential for future success.

The recipients are:

  • Kaia Jane of Cypress Bay High School, who received a National Merit scholarship sponsored by the University of Central Florida.
  • Andy Wu of Cypress Bay High School, who received a National Merit scholarship sponsored by the University of Florida.
  • Gabriel Garcia of Plantation High School, who received a National Merit scholarship sponsored by the University of Central Florida.

College-sponsored National Merit Scholarships are funded by participating colleges and universities for National Merit finalists who have been accepted for admission and selected the sponsoring institution as their first-choice college. The awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn congratulated the students on the achievement.

"We congratulate these remarkable students on this well-deserved achievement," Hepburn said. "Their dedication to academic excellence and pursuit of higher education exemplify the outstanding talent found throughout Broward County Public Schools. We are proud of their accomplishments and wish them continued success as they begin the next chapter of their educational journey."

The district said the additional scholarship recipients underscore Broward County Public Schools' continued commitment to academic excellence and preparing students for success in college, careers and life.
