The new board will be officially installed during the Society’s Annual General Membership Meeting on May 14, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Café Vico in Fort Lauderdale.
Joining Dr. Blake on the Executive Committee are Shannon Curran as Vice President of Ways and Means, Claire Crawford as Vice President of Membership, Bonnie Pearl as Vice President of Public Relations, Matthew Dreger as Treasurer, and Pam Flaherty as Corresponding Secretary.
A board-certified physician in critical care, pulmonary disease, sleep medicine, and internal medicine, Dr. Dahlia Blake is also a celebrated leader and advocate for the arts. A 2024 recipient of the Governor General of Jamaica Achievement Award Recognizing Excellence, she is known for her commitment to equity, public health, and cultural outreach. Dr. Blake’s vision for The Opera Society includes fostering greater community engagement and making the arts more inclusive and accessible.
She earned her medical degree from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, completed her internship at Staten Island University Hospital, residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey University Hospital, and completed her fellowship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey University Hospital.
Founded in 1978, The Opera Society has long supported opera in South Florida by raising funds for Florida Grand Opera and organizing educational and cultural events throughout Broward County. The upcoming membership meeting will also include a review of the past year’s highlights and outline future initiatives.
