Sunshine Girls end winless Fast5 campaign, place sixth in New Zealand

WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND — Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls faced a challenging run in the Fast5 Netball World Series, concluding the tournament in sixth place after a winless stretch in New Zealand.

Despite a spirited effort, the Sunshine Girls dropped all six of their matches, including a narrow 38-36 defeat to England in their 5th/6th place play-off on Sunday, ending a disappointing campaign for the Jamaican side.

Australia clinched the title for a third consecutive year, staging an impressive 34-30 comeback against host nation New Zealand. Uganda claimed third place, edging out South Africa 46-42.

A rough note for Jamaica

The tournament began on a rough note for Jamaica. Friday’s opening day saw the Sunshine Girls lose to New Zealand 39-19, followed by a 35-15 defeat to England and a 33-25 loss to South Africa. Hopes for a turnaround on the final day were quickly dashed as they fell to Australia 56-39, lost to Uganda 43-26, and narrowly missed a win in their closing game against England.

The Sunshine Girls now look to regroup and refocus, aiming to improve on this performance in future international competitions.
