KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls wrapped up their final training session at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Wednesday night, ahead of their upcoming trip to England for the first two matches in the Horizon Series against England on November 16 and 17.
The Sunshine Girls, led by coach Sasher-Gaye Henry and captain Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard, expressed confidence in their preparation and readiness to face a strong English team.
Reflecting on the team’s preparation, Coach Henry said, “England is a good team, and they have been going well. They are coming off about an eight-game advantage compared to us, so that’s something in their favor. But it’s exciting to see how our girls will step up and give a good account of themselves.” She added that the focus in training has been on strength and conditioning, as well as tactical play, with notable improvements seen among the newer players joining the senior squad.

Henry also highlighted the anticipation among the squad’s newer members—Teresa Beckford, Chrystal Plummer, Mischa Creary, England-based Rhea Dixon, Simone Gordon, Zaudi Green, and Kimone Shaw—who are eager to make their mark on the international stage.
Captain Fowler-Nembhard, who has been with the training squad for the past month, expressed optimism about the team’s cohesion. “We are gelling together. The training sessions have been really good and purposeful, so it’s been a positive experience overall,” she said. Fowler-Nembhard also shared her personal excitement, noting, “I just think my game is going well. I had a pretty good year so far, and I’m going to transfer that into this series.”
Following the two games in England, the Sunshine Girls will return home to play the final matches of the Horizon Series on November 24 and 25 at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston.
