Subtropical Storm Don develops in open Atlantic waters, becomes fifth named storm of the Year
Subtropical storm Don emerged in the open waters of the Atlantic on Friday, as confirmed by the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
Reports are that there is no threat to land.
Differentiating from tropical storms that bring forth heavier rains, subtropical storms are known to exhibit a broader range of strong winds, extending beyond the center of the system. This is according to the US National Weather Service.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 kph) and was moving north at six mph (nine kph). It was located about 1,165 miles (1,875 kilometers) west-southwest of the Azores, a cluster of islands west of Portugal.
This marks the fifth named storm to develop this year. As per predictions, Don is expected to turn eastwards on Sunday and weaken over the coming days.
The Atlantic hurricane season spans from June 1 to November 30.
