In Guyana, the Nigerian man who attacked a presidential guard outside President Irfaan Ali’s official residence last month is due to appear in court on Thursday to face charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm.

Bethel Ikena Chimezie’s scheduled court appearance is coming three days after he was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital where he had been since December 15, 2022, after being shot in the incident outside State House.

The 35-year-old, had turned up at the southeastern guard hut at State House and confronted the security detail, telling them, “I want the President”.
