In a masterful display of leadership, Captain Stafanie Taylor propelled Jamaica to victory in the Women's T20 Blaze, guiding her team to an emphatic eight-wicket win over Leeward Islands at Warner Park on Monday.
Chasing a target of 125 in the final round of matches, Jamaica chased down the total with ease, finishing the campaign unbeaten and clinching the double after their recent success in the Super50 Cup. Taylor, the 32-year-old veteran right-hander, played a pivotal role in the chase, crafting a composed unbeaten 48 off 33 deliveries.
Opening batswoman Rashada Williams contributed 39 runs from 51 deliveries, while Chedean Nation provided valuable support with 23 runs from 25 balls. Jamaica's decision to bowl first paid off as they restricted Leeward Islands to 124 for five from their allotted 20 overs, with off-spinner Nation picking up two crucial wickets for 21 runs.
An early setback
Despite an early setback with Natasha McLean's dismissal, Jamaica's innings regained momentum as Williams and Nation steadied the ship with a 35-run partnership. When Nation departed, Taylor assumed responsibility, smashing six boundaries and a six to steer Jamaica to victory alongside Williams in an unbroken 86-run stand for the third wicket.
With this triumph, Jamaica sealed the Women's T20 Blaze title, underscoring their dominance in the tournament under the leadership of Stafanie Taylor.
