Tertiary education fees for students attending the University of the West Indies (UWI) will see no further increase this year.

The freeze on tuition fees was revealed yesterday at ba press conference hosted by UWI officials at the Mona Campus in Kingston, Jamaica.

UWI’s Vice Chancellor, Sir Hilary Beckles, explained that the administration does not intend to approach the university’s council, which governs operation at the institution, for an adjustment in the fees. He stated that the UWI continues to engage in activities to boost its revenues and ensure the university’s financial availability, according to a report in the Jamaica Gleaner.

Tuition fees at UWI went up by six percent this academic year. As a result, most students paid J$275,763 (US$2,500) for the 2016-2017 academic year. In the previous school year they paid J$259, 901 (US$2,400)- the same for the 2014-2015 academic year.
