St. Lucia police probe surge of violence in Vieux Fort

Police authorities in St. Lucia are intensifying their investigations following a series of violent episodes that have rocked communities across the island.

In the southern town of Vieux Fort, two individuals were killed, while numerous others sustained injuries during a recent outbreak of gun violence.

Meanwhile, a separate fatal incident occurred in Dennery, a serene fishing village nestled along St. Lucia’s eastern coast.

Renewed concerns in Vieux Fort

Vieux Fort has once again found itself thrust into the spotlight due to surge in violent confrontations.

Last year, amidst escalating tensions, the government enlisted the support of the Barbados-based Regional Security System to help quell the rising tide of gun-related crimes.

Island-wide impact

St. Lucia has recorded 17 murders so far this year.

There were 75 murders in 2023, most of which the police linked to gang violence and rivalry.
