St. Lucia condemns terrorist attack in Spain

The government of St. Lucia has condemned Thursday’s terrorist attack in Barcelona, Spain, that led to the death of 13 people, and injured over one hundread.

 

“These types of attacks are becoming all too common in Europe,” said Prime Minister Allen Chastanet.

“These types of atrocities are becoming all too common in Europe and in the heart of busy tourist areas. The attack is callous, and heartless. Our prayers are with the families of the innocent victims and injured and also with those waiting for word about their family members,” said Chastanet.

 

“This is a difficult time for the Government and People of Spain and we as a nation condemn such attacks,” he said. “We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters and friends in Spain and in Europe and we are committed like the rest of the region to stand with Europe against such terror.”

 

Two men, a Spanish national from the North African enclave of Melilla and a Moroccan, have been arrested but police have said neither was the driver of the van, who is reported to have fled the scene.

 

The Barcelona incident is the latest in a string of attacks across Europe where terrorists using vans and cars have killed people in London, Berlin and Nice.
