A Haitian Spirit Airlines team member, stationed in Florida, recently led an incredible initiative to donate school supplies to students of the National School in Leogane, Haiti, ahead of the academic school year.

Rose Rousseau, Spirit’s Guest Service Manager stationed in Orlando, Florida, spearheaded the initiative to donate the kits of supplies, which included backpacks, notebooks, rulers and pencils.

Originally from Haiti, Rousseau took it upon herself to compile the kits of supplies for students, after being made aware of the need by her mother, who was principal of the school for many years.

“I am grateful to everyone that supported and donated to this mission, helping these students further their education,” said Rousseau.

“My mother and I have strong ties towards the school, the faculty and the students, and know that this institution has gone through a lot over the past several years. We are very proud and thankful to be a part of this donation.”

The supplies were flown in by Spirit Airlines and personally delivered to the school’s Director, Brismond Anselme, on September 23. The institution, which also makes up the largest voting center in the Palmes region, was burned down in 2016 and has since then worked to rebuild itself back up.

"I am delighted to see that Spirit Airlines supports the students of the oldest school in Leogane," said Marie Anne Lambert, the school’s former principal and current member of the Leogane Teacher’s Association.

Spirit initiated service to Haiti in 2007 with a direct flight connecting Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince (PAP) to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

The airline’s yellow planes have flown more than 1 million Guests between the U.S. and Haiti since operations began 13 years ago.
