First-half difficulties

Brighton caused some first-half difficulties by confidently playing out from the back, but City dominated after the break. Guro Bergsvand blocked a Shaw effort that could have doubled the lead, while Lauren Hemp was a constant threat in the opposition box.

Shaw, who took a knock while attempting to convert a Hemp cross, was eventually substituted for Mary Fowler after receiving on-field medical attention.

The win brings City their first of the campaign after a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in their opener.
