Volunteers from Sandals and Beaches Resorts joined Labour Day projects across Jamaica, helping to restore schools, healthcare facilities and community spaces as communities continue recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa.

The activities were carried out under the national Labour Day theme, "One People, One Purpose: In All Things Jamaica Wins," which encouraged Jamaicans to participate in projects aimed at improving public spaces and supporting community development.

In St. Ann, team members from Sandals Dunn's River and Sandals Royal Plantation undertook restoration work at Priory Primary and Infant School. Volunteers painted buildings, cleaned the grounds and carried out beautification activities intended to improve the learning environment for students and staff.

Principal Collin Hall said the school's partnership with the resorts has been particularly valuable since the hurricane.

"I can't thank Sandals enough for all the hard work and care they have shown us since Hurricane Melissa," Hall said. "From helping us clean up after the storm to now repainting the infant department, their support has truly lifted our spirits."

Elsewhere in the parish, employees from Sandals Ochi and Sandals Golf & Country Club completed a beautification project at St. Ann's Bay Regional Hospital. The work focused on an outdoor area used by patients and staff and included expanding a paved walkway, creating flower beds, repainting walls, restoring benches and tables, and enhancing landscaping features.

Christopher Mundle, a landscaping manager involved in the project, said volunteers remained committed despite the scale of the work.

"It was a labour-intensive project and a full day's work for the team, but everyone remained committed because we understood the positive impact the space would have on the people who use it every day," he said.

In Westmoreland, volunteers from Sandals Negril and Beaches Negril spent Labour Day carrying out improvements at Grange Hill Primary School. The project focused on refreshing classrooms and learning spaces, including a classroom shared by Grade 2 and Grade 6 students at the school, which currently operates on a shift system.

Principal Joan Johnson welcomed the support, saying the improvements would benefit both students and teachers as the school continues recovery and rebuilding efforts.

The projects formed part of a broader effort by Sandals and Beaches Resorts to participate in community development initiatives across the island. Organizers said the activities were intended to support schools, healthcare facilities and other public spaces while encouraging volunteerism and community engagement.
