Reggae Girlz lose 3 – 2 to Scotland in warm up match

Goals by Khadija Shaw were not enough to stop Jamaica's Reggae Girlz going down 2-3 to Scotland despite a gutsy display in a friendly contest at Hampden Park, Scotland on Tuesday.

Shaw sent Jamaica in front in the 15th minute and added another in the 49th, but Scotland through goals from Erin Cuthbert (30th), Caroline Weir (35th) and Sophie Howard (56th), ensured it was the perfect send-off on their part.

Both teams, who will be making their debut appearance at the FIFA Women's World Cup in France, will now turn their focus on fine-tuning ahead of the June 7-July 7 tournament.

In yesterday's match-up, both teams applied a high-press tactic, but Scotland at the start were more comfortable in possession and moving the ball around with a few steady build ups that forced the Jamaicans into an early defensive posture.

Adding to Jamaica’s loss, Shaw was forced to leave the game with an ankle injury and her replacement Kayla McCoy was also forced off with a knee injury.

This was the Girlz first loss their last six games, the first time  since the naming of the final 23-member World Cup squad.

The team now will prepare to leave for Lyon, France for a final pre-tournament camp before bowing into World Cup Group C action against Brazil on June 9.

They will also oppose Italy (June 14) and Australia (June 18) at the June 7 to July 7 global showpiece.
