Rampant gang attacks in Haitian capital leave 30 dead

Gang violence surged in Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital, has resulted in the tragic death of 30 residents and has left  more than a dozen others nursing injuries, according to local human rights group on Thursday.

According to a provisional toll provided to AFP by the National Human Rights Defense Network, the Carrefour-Feuilles neighborhood witnessed the harrowing sight of houses engulfed in flames, indicative of the rampant gang control. 

It is also reported that two officers also died in the spiraling violence.

The neighborhood is a strategic area for the gangs, which control about 80 per cent of Haiti's capital.

Mass exodus amidst rising violence

Reports are that the escalating tension and onslaught have forced a massive displacement, with an estimated 5,000 residents seeking refuge elsewhere. 

While some have found temporary relief in schools and a local sports center, many others remain stranded on the streets.
