Promising female footballers from Jamaica to embark on training programme in China

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has handpicked 19 talented female footballers, aged between 16 and 18 year to participate in a rigorous two-month training programme in China this summer.

This initiative, aimed at enhancing the development of local players, marks the revival of a sports agreement between the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport and China, representing the first group to embark on the trip since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Scheduled to depart for China in June and return by the end of August, the selected players will undergo a series of intensive technical training sessions during their stay in the Asian nation. These sessions are designed to bolster their skills and prospects for potential inclusion in the national teams.

The players earned their spots in the programme after catching the eye of the coaching staff during rigorous training sessions held at the University of the West Indies Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence over the past three weeks.

Satisfaction with the agreement

Expressing satisfaction with the agreement, the JFF views this initiative as a significant step towards nurturing young talent in Jamaica while strengthening the depth of the national squads. Moreover, the JFF plans to leverage this training programme as part of its short-term and long-term development strategies for women's national teams.

The selected players represent a diverse mix of athletes hailing from various parishes across the island, reflecting the federation's commitment to inclusivity and talent development.
