Police arrest South Florida man following threatening social media posts

Authorities in South Florida have apprehended a man from Boca Raton following allegations of his threatening social media statements, which included potential acts of violence against the Jewish community.

The 26-year-old, Paul Thomas Morris, faces charges relating to written threats to conduct a mass shooting or engage in terrorist activities.

Investigation triggered by alarming social media activity

The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after a concerned individual reported his friend, Morris, for making disturbing declarations online.

According to the arrest report, Morris explicitly threatened to target a synagogue and expressed a desire to harm the Jewish community.

His unsettling posts appeared on both Discord and Instagram, with one particularly aggressive message calling for violence against Jews and another directly mentioning plans to attack a synagogue.

Insights from the accused’s roommate

Upon further inquiry, Morris’ roommate disclosed to investigators that although Morris had a history of mental health issues, his recent online behavior was unprecedented and alarming.

The roommate’s testimony highlighted the severity of Morris’ statements, despite Morris claiming that his intention was not to incite violence but rather to distance himself from friends pressuring him about his political views.
