Officers responded to the school on Northwest 16th Street and began searching the campus. Police also established a perimeter around the school, preventing anyone from entering or leaving while the investigation was underway.
The student connected to the initial report was later located, and investigators determined that no gun had been brought onto the campus. Police also found that no fight had occurred.
The lockdown was subsequently lifted and the police perimeter cleared.
“The Plantation Police Department commends the school staff and students for taking the situation seriously and following safety procedures while officers worked to determine the facts,” the department said in a statement on X. “The safety of our students, faculty, and staff remains our highest priority.”
No injuries were reported, and police did not immediately release additional details about what prompted the original comment regarding a gun.
