A Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed a 20-year-old man early on April 26 after finding him stabbing his 52-year-old father during a domestic violence incident in West Palm Beach. Both the father and son later died from their injuries.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., deputies responded to reports of an armed confrontation between the two men at a residence in the 6400 block of Emerald Dunes Drive in unincorporated West Palm Beach. Upon arrival, deputies found the younger man actively stabbing his father with a sword.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), deputies gave multiple verbal commands for the suspect to drop the weapon, but he refused to comply. As a result, a deputy discharged their firearm, striking the suspect.

Deputies immediately rendered medical aid to both men, but despite their efforts, both the father and son succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

The identities of the father and son have not been released by authorities at this time. The 52-year-old victim and his 20-year-old son were residents of the home where the incident occurred.

As per department protocol, the deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the investigation is ongoing. The PBSO Violent Crimes Division, the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly altercation.

The investigation remains active, and no additional information has been made available at this time.
