The Palm Beach County Library System, an authorized voter registration agency, is reminding residents that voter registration applications are available at Member Services desks across all of its branches.
Library staff can provide applications to first-time voters as well as residents who need to change their address, political party affiliation, legal name or signature on file.
Once an application is completed, library staff will ensure it is delivered to the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections.
The service comes as Florida prepares for the November 3 general election. Under state law, eligible residents must register at least 29 days before an election to participate. For this year’s general election, the registration deadline is October 5.
Florida residents are eligible to register if they are U.S. citizens, live in the state and are at least 18 years old. Residents can preregister beginning at age 16 but cannot vote until they turn 18.
People who have been adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting are not eligible unless their voting rights have been restored. People convicted of felonies must also have their voting rights restored before registering, subject to Florida's eligibility requirements.
Residents can also use the library service to update existing voter records, an option that may be useful for people who have recently moved or changed their names.
