Dr. Glaude, one of the nation’s most respected voices on African American history and democracy, will serve as keynote speaker during the Juneteenth Dinner & Awards Presentation on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Miramar Cultural Center Banquet Hall. The event begins at 6:00 PM and runs until 9:00 PM.

The commemoration continues on Thursday, June 19, with a family-friendly community gathering from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at City Hall Plaza. The Juneteenth Family Day promises a festive atmosphere with cultural presentations, live entertainment, and activities for all ages.

“These events are more than a celebration—they are an affirmation of our shared history, achievements, and unity as a community,” said Vice Mayor Yvette Colbourne. “I invite all residents to join us in honoring this important milestone with culture, expression and reflection.”

Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr. is the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor at Princeton University, where he teaches in the departments of African American Studies and Religion. He previously served as the inaugural chair of Princeton’s African American Studies department when it gained full academic status in 2015. He led the program until stepping down in 2023. A leading public intellectual, Glaude’s work spans racial and religious identity politics, and he has authored and edited multiple acclaimed books.

The City of Miramar’s Juneteenth 2025 celebrations are open to the public. More information and updates will be available on the city’s official platforms.
