No new COVID-19 protocols needed,  says PM Philip Davis

Bahamas’ Prime Minister Philip Davis says that there is no need to implement COVID-19 protocols in the country, despite a recent surge in cases since December 2023. 

This decision comes in the face of warnings from health officials regarding the escalating COVID-19 situation.

Mask recommendations, but no mandates

Prime Minister Davis has announced that while masks are recommended, they will not be made mandatory. 

The Ministry of Health in the Bahamas has reported a concerning increase in COVID-19 cases. Over the past six weeks, a total of 36 cases have been documented, with 26 cases occurring in December alone. 

Additionally, the country has sadly recorded one COVID-19-related death during this period.

Former Health Minister voices concerns

Former Health Minister, Dr. Duane Sands, has voiced his concerns about the government’s lack of transparency in addressing the COVID-19 situation.

He believes that the authorities should be more forthcoming with residents about the reality of the pandemic within the country.
