New landing gear acquired amidst LIAT 2020 test flight challenges

In response to recent findings of malfunctioning landing gear during test flights of the recently acquired LIAT 2020 aircraft, officials have taken swift action to secure replacement parts.
Prime Minister confirms reports and ensures remedial Measures
Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda confirmed the reports during the weekend, emphasizing that proactive measures have been taken to rectify the issue.
He indicated that new parts have been procured to address the identified faults.
Progress amidst challenges
Browne highlighted the ongoing test flights conducted over the weekend, revealing that adjustments to the landing gear and engine were necessary.
He noted that while one part has already been received, another is expected to arrive by Tuesday.
The Prime Minister expressed optimism that these test flights, coupled with thorough reviews by the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA), would expedite the process, with hopes of completion within the coming weeks.
The necessary repairs and modifications are crucial for LIAT 2020 to obtain its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), a prerequisite for initiating regular scheduled flights.
Government’s investment in airborne safety
In addition to addressing the concerns with the newly acquired aircraft, Prime Minister Browne acknowledged the state of the other two aircraft sought for purchase from the Caribbean Development Bank.
He emphasized the need for extensive refurbishments and replacements, including new landing gear and other essential components.
The government has earmarked US$10 million for these necessary investments, underscoring its dedication to upholding stringent safety standards.
