J'ouvert celebrants of the Nu Vybes Sugar Band in St Kitts and Nevis faced a harrowing ordeal on Tuesday morning when a truck, transporting a large music sound system, veered off course.

Social media platforms were flooded with videos capturing the scene. Passengers were seen frantically disembarking from the music trailer as it lost control and plunged into a ditch.

Five members of Nu Vybes Sugar Band injured


Five people were injured from the incident. They were members of the Nu Vybes Sugar Band.

They were rushed to the Alexandra Hospital in Nevis for immediate medical attention following the mishap.

In the wake of the accident, St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew took to Facebook to counsel those partaking in the Emancipation Day J'ouvert and Long Jam festivities.

He emphasized the importance of being vigilant and prudent, especially when partaking in road celebrations.

St. Kitts and Nevis, like all the former British colonies, celebrated  the abolition of slavery on August 1.
