In a match dominated by brilliant spin bowling, Guyana Amazon Warriors cruised to a six-wicket victory over the St Lucia Kings, as spinners Gudakesh Motie and Imran Tahir tore through the Kings’ lower order, skittling them for a meager 100 runs.

With this clinical performance in St. Lucia, the Warriors rose to the top of the Caribbean Premier League standings, maintaining their unbeaten run on Saturday. The Kings paltry score in 14.3 overs was the lowest total recorded in this year's Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The Warriors, fresh off two previous wins, easily chased down the modest target, reaching 101-4 in just 10 overs. This dominant performance marked their third consecutive win, placing them atop the CPL standings, while the Kings, now with their first defeat after two victories, slipped to third place behind the undefeated Barbados Royals.

The Kings' innings faltered early after captain Faf du Plessis fell for six, trapped leg-before-wicket by fast bowler Dwaine Pretorius. Ackeem Auguste followed shortly after, run out by a sharp piece of fielding from Motie for 10, leaving the Kings struggling at 27-2 in the fourth over.

Amajor collapse

With the scoreboard at 42-2, the Kings suffered a major collapse, losing four wickets for just seven runs. Keemo Paul sparked the downfall, dismissing Bhanuka Rajapaksa (7) and opener Johnson Charles (19). Player-of-the-Match Motie and veteran spinner Tahir then took control of the proceedings.

Tahir clean-bowled Roston Chase for two and immediately sent David Wiese back to the pavilion with a leg-before decision, as the Kings crumbled to 49-6 by the seventh over.

Matthew Forde provided some late resistance with a top score of 31 off 21 balls, featuring two sixes and three fours, but it wasn’t enough. His partnership with Tim Seifert yielded 45 runs, the highest of the Kings' innings, but once Forde was dismissed by Motie, the final wickets fell quickly.

Motie claimed three wickets for just 16 runs from 3.3 overs, while Tahir added 3-29 in his full four overs. Keemo Paul also chipped in with 2-19 as the Warriors bowlers enjoyed a collective success.

Short work

In response, the Warriors openers made short work of the target. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Tim Robinson started with an explosive partnership, propelling the Warriors to 62-1 in just five overs. Gurbaz’s blistering 47 from 19 balls, laced with seven sixes, put the Warriors in the driver's seat. Though Robinson was bowled for 33 by Noor Ahmad, the Warriors were well on their way.

Despite losing Shai Hope (11) and Azam Khan (0) towards the end, Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul steered the team home with ease. Ahmad was the standout bowler for the Kings, finishing with 3-22 from his four overs, but his efforts couldn’t stave off defeat.

With this emphatic win, the Warriors solidified their status as early frontrunners in this year's CPL, while the Kings were left to regroup after their first setback.
