A Miramar police sergeant has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend in Miami-Dade County.

Devarious Holloway, 32, surrendered to authorities on Monday and was charged with battery and criminal mischief causing $200 or less in damage, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. He was released from jail Tuesday after posting bond.

Investigators said Holloway and the victim had been in a dating relationship for about two years when an argument escalated at the woman's home on Friday.

According to the arrest report, Holloway texted the victim around 7 p.m., asking her to come outside and telling her, "My mom wants to talk to you." The victim told investigators she was confused because Holloway's mother died in 2017.

Deputies said the two began discussing the status of their relationship before Holloway entered the victim's residence. Authorities allege he threw her cellphone, pushed her onto a couch, punched her in the bottom lip with a closed fist when she attempted to stand, and kicked her in the leg.

The victim later retreated to a bedroom and locked the door. Investigators said Holloway kicked the bedroom door, damaging the frame, while continuing to question her about their relationship.

According to the arrest report, Holloway left the residence but later returned, where another confrontation occurred. Deputies allege he struck the victim in the chest, causing redness and breaking her chain, before leaving the property.

The victim reported the incident to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office on Saturday. Investigators documented injuries that included a cut to her lip, bruising to her leg, and redness to her chest.

A judge has ordered Holloway to have no contact with the victim.

Following his arrest, the Miramar Police Department confirmed Holloway has been placed on administrative leave while the department conducts an internal investigation.

"The Department acknowledges the matter referenced and has initiated a thorough administrative review in accordance with established departmental procedures. Sergeant Holloway has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of that review," the department said in a statement.

The department said it launched the review after being notified by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office of the off-duty incident.

"The Miramar Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and ethical conduct, and will address this matter through the appropriate channels," the statement added.

Holloway was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2024 and has served with the Miramar Police Department for nine years.
