The Office of the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections will begin mailing vote-by-mail ballots for the August 18 Primary Election on Thursday, July 9, officials announced.

Approximately 168,000 ballots will be transported from the Supervisor of Elections main office warehouse onto a U.S. Postal Service truck at 10:30 a.m., a process open to members of the working media. Following the loading, Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia is expected to hold a media availability to address questions about the mailing process and the upcoming election.

Garcia said the office remains committed to maintaining trust in the electoral process through secure and accessible voting options.

“Building the public’s trust through secure, fair, accurate, and accessible elections is my pledge,” Garcia said. “Voting by mail is one of three convenient ways our voters can cast their votes, along with early voting and voting on election day. I also want to encourage voter participation in these critically important elections.”

Officials noted that voters in Miami-Dade County may request vote-by-mail ballots for a single election or for all eligible elections through the next general election cycle. However, requests submitted before the 2024 general election expired on January 1, 2025, and must be renewed under Florida law after each general election.

The office also reminded voters that the U.S. Postal Service will not forward vote-by-mail ballots to new addresses. Any change in mailing location requires submission of a Statewide Vote-by-Mail Ballot Request Form, which must include the voter’s signature in most cases.

The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot for the August 18 Primary Election is August 6, 2026. Ballots must be received by the Supervisor of Elections no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted. Officials are urging voters to mail ballots early to allow time for correction if there are any signature issues.

Voter registration for the primary closes on July 20.

More information is available at Miami-Dade Elections, and voters may also call 305-499-8444 for assistance.

The ballot mailing event will take place at the Supervisor of Elections warehouse, located at 2700 NW 87 Avenue in Doral, and will be followed by a media briefing with Garcia.
