Miami-Dade to mail more than 200,000 ballots for November election

More than 200,000 Vote-by-Mail ballots will begin making their way to Miami-Dade County voters this week ahead of the Nov. 3 General Election.
The Miami-Dade County Office of the Supervisor of Elections will begin mailing ballots Thursday, Sept. 24, to voters who have already requested them.
The ballots are scheduled to be loaded onto a U.S. Postal Service truck at the Elections Headquarters Warehouse in Doral beginning at 10:30 a.m. Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia will hold a media availability afterward to discuss voting by mail and preparations for the election.
“Building the public’s trust through secure, fair, accurate and accessible elections is my pledge,” Garcia said. “Voting by mail is one of three convenient and safe ways Miami-Dade County voters can make their voices heard, along with Early Voting and voting on Election Day.”
Garcia encouraged eligible voters to make a voting plan and familiarize themselves with key deadlines ahead of the election.
Voters planning to cast their ballots by mail are being urged to verify that they have an active Vote-by-Mail request on file. Under Florida law, Vote-by-Mail requests must be renewed for future election cycles.
The deadline to request a Vote-by-Mail ballot for the Nov. 3 election is 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22.
The U.S. Postal Service will not forward Vote-by-Mail ballots to another address. Voters who want their ballot mailed somewhere other than the address on file with the elections office must submit a Statewide Vote-by-Mail Ballot Request Form. The form generally requires the voter's signature.
Completed ballots must be received by the Supervisor of Elections Office by 7 p.m. on Election Day. A postmark by the deadline is not sufficient. Postage is prepaid for the countywide election.
Voters may also return completed mail ballots at secure ballot intake stations at Early Voting sites during voting hours. On Election Day, mail ballots can be returned by 7 p.m. to Elections Headquarters in Doral or the Elections Branch Office at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center. They cannot be dropped off at Election Day polling places.
Election officials are encouraging voters to return their ballots early, which can also provide additional time to address any issues with signatures on ballot envelopes.
The voter registration deadline for the General Election is Monday, Oct. 5. Early Voting will run from Oct. 19 through Nov. 1, with polling locations open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
