The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office says it has stopped multiple attempts to cheat during driver license knowledge exams after individuals were found using concealed electronic devices designed to provide unauthorized assistance.

According to the office, the suspects entered a testing location with microphones, recording equipment and other hidden devices intended to help them receive outside support during the examination. Officials described the attempts as deliberate and said they undermined the integrity of Florida’s driver licensing system.

Staff at the facility detected the equipment and halted the exams before any fraud could be completed, the office said.

“Let me be absolutely clear: fraud will not be tolerated at any Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office or by any authorized third-party administrator, commonly known as a driving school,” Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez said in a statement. He added that individuals attempting to cheat should expect to be caught and face consequences.

Fernandez also emphasized that obtaining a driver license is a regulated privilege rather than a right, warning that those who attempt to bypass requirements may face administrative penalties as well as possible criminal charges. Such actions could also result in denial or loss of eligibility for future licensing.

The Tax Collector’s Office said it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward fraud and will continue working with state and local law enforcement, including the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, to investigate and prevent similar attempts.

Officials said staff training and security procedures played a key role in identifying the devices and stopping the incidents, and pledged continued vigilance across all testing sites.
