Miami-Dade police bust organized fraud scheme

The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), Organized Crimes Bureau, Vice Intelligence Squad (VIS), apprehended a suspect involved in an organized scheme to defraud and grand theft.

Reports are that a 75 years old man, received a call from an individual who was claiming to be an attorney. 

The scammer posed as an attorney and informed the victim that his grandson had been in a traffic accident, threatening criminal charges unless $8,280 was paid.

The victim was instructed to place the money in an envelope and provide it to a courier. 

Subject identified

The subject, Manuel Alfonso Lopez, arrived at the victim’s residence, collected the money, and fled.

However, detectives were able to locate the subject and charged him accordingly.
