The Miami-Dade Police Department’s (MDPD) Organized Crime Bureau, Economic Crimes Section, has apprehended an individual who posed as a general contractor, swindling over $13,000.00 from elderly victims by promising services he never delivered.
Elderly exploited
Reports are that investigators uncovered a web of deceit spun by Omar Ramiro Lopez, who entered into contractual agreements with numerous elderly residents, claiming to provide outdoor fencing installation services.
Lopez, allegedly posing as a licensed contractor, accepted payments from his trusting victims. However, he failed to perform the contractual duties and did not refund the victims.
License Violations exposed
According to the State of Florida Construction Industries Licensing Board and the Miami-Dade County’s Construction Trading Board, the subject and his company (D/B/A Horizon Structural Developers, LLC) are not licensed.
The subject was arrested and charged accordingly.
This investigation was conducted in collaboration with the Miami-Dade Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources: Contractor Fraud Unit.
As detectives delve deeper into this case, they believe there may be additional victims who have fallen prey to Lopez’s fraudulent schemes.
