Maleke Martin, a 26-year-old man in Bermuda was sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexually abusing a child.

Martin was found guilty of the charges in December 2022 .

He was sentenced by a Supreme Court judge yesterday.

According to the Bermuda Police Service (BPS), Martin was sentenced to 13.5 years in prison for sexually exploiting a minor while acting as a person in trust, 16 years imprisonment for sexual exploitation of a young person, and six years imprisonment for showing abusive images to a young person.

Reports are that at the trial, Maleke Martin became the first sex offender to be pursued in court using the Special Measures for Child Witnesses in Criminal Cases legislation.
