Detectives from the St. Andrew North Division in Jamaica have charged 61-year-old Norman Tomlinson of Cyprus district in Red Hills, St. Andrew with the murder of veteran broadcaster and novelist, Peter Abrahams.

Abrahams was found dead at his home in Red Hills, St. Andrew on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Following a Post Mortem examination, it was revealed that the injuries that Abrahams received were deliberately inflicted. He died from the effects of blunt force trauma. Extensive and coordinated investigations by the Detectives, led to the arrest of Tomlinson, who was subsequently charged following a question and answer session at the Constant Spring Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB).

Tomlinson’s court date will be announced following committal proceedings.

Abraham's demise sent shock waves through the island and the Jamaican diasapora. His voice was a staple on radio and for many Jamaicans at home and abroad his death was a shocker.

George Davidson was relieved that someone had finally been brought to book.

"It is a relief that the police have finally arrested someone in connection with Mr Abraham's death. I used to look forward to hear his commentary everyday on radio in the 1970's. So many murders go unsolved in Jamaica and I hope this is the right person that has been charged," the South Florida resident told Caribbean National Weekly.

Abrahams was born in South Africa but was exiled during the apartheid era and lived in the United Kingdom before making Jamaica his home.
