In a moving tribute on Wednesday, the City of Lauderdale Lakes launched the Aden Perry Hero Life Ring Initiative to honor the bravery of local teen Aden Perry.
The ceremony, held at 4060 NW 33rd Avenue at 10:00 AM, brought together city officials, community members, and Perry's family to commemorate his heroic actions and introduce a city-wide water safety program in his name.
The initiative was established in memory of Aden Perry, whose courageous attempt to save another person tragically ended in his own life being lost. To honor his sacrifice and raise awareness about water safety, the city has committed to installing life rings at all major water bodies, each bearing Perry's image and a critical safety message: “THROW, DON’T GO!”
This safety reminder encourages bystanders to act wisely in emergencies by calling 911 and using the life rings instead of attempting a direct water rescue, which can be dangerous even for experienced swimmers.
Perry’s mother, Sarah Perry, was present at the event and spoke about her son's legacy. In his memory, she has established the Aden Perry Good Samaritan & Scholarship Fund, dedicated to spreading water safety awareness and ensuring that lifesaving equipment is easily accessible across the city and beyond. Through the fund, Sarah hopes to prevent future tragedies by placing life-saving rings at waterways throughout the region.
As part of the initiative, Lauderdale Lakes will install 10 life rings across the city’s canals and waterways in a proactive effort to increase water safety. The initiative serves both as a tribute to Aden's memory and a step toward ensuring that no other family experiences such a loss.
Wednesday's ceremony underscored the critical importance of water safety and celebrated the profound impact one person can have on their community. The City of Lauderdale Lakes is committed to honoring Aden's legacy by fostering a culture of safety around its bodies of water.
