Hurd steps into the role following the departure of Ellington Sabin, who guided Dominica’s senior team for several years.
Rather than beginning with an unfamiliar squad, Hurd already understands the players, their capabilities and the demands of international competition. His short spell in March effectively served as an introduction to the group and helped shape his decision to seek the job on a permanent basis.
Now, with a two-year mandate secured, the new coach has an opportunity to establish his philosophy and build greater consistency within the program.
September provides the first test
There will be little time for Hurd to settle into his new position.
His first major competitive assignment comes in September, when Dominica begins its CONCACAF Nations Cup campaign. The tournament will provide an immediate measure of how quickly the coach can translate his familiarity with the squad into results.
